The Leonardo Express trains offer comfort, cleanliness, and plenty of luggage space for passengers. Your journey will take just 32 minutes with no stops in between, allowing you to reach your destination quickly.
Trains run frequently, departing every 15 minutes during peak hours and every 30 minutes at other times, ensuring minimal wait times.
The Leonardo Express is more economical than taking a taxi and provides a faster, more comfortable ride compared to shuttle buses. It's an ideal balance of convenience, speed, and cost-effectiveness for most travellers.
Once you board the train, you can take any empty seat as there is no assigned seating on the Leonardo Express.
The journey between Fiumicino Airport and Termini Station takes only 32 minutes, with no stops (the distance is around 30 km).
Catching Leonardo Express is super easy, as it runs every 15 minutes (peak times) or 30 minutes (off-peak times) in both directions.
The first Leonardo Express train from Roma Termini departs at 4:50am, while the last one leaves at 11:35pm. The first train from Fiumicino Airport runs at 5:38am and the final train of the day leaves at 12:23am.
The Leonardo Express schedule accommodates most flights arriving and departing from Fiumicino Airport.
A one-way ticket for the Leonardo Express costs €14, and there is only one class of service. There are no discounts if you buy both your outward and return ticket at the same time.
Children under the age of 4 travel for free on Leonardo Express. A child from 4 to 11 years old can also travel for free, if there is a paying adult travelling with them.
IMPORTANT! Child aged 12 and older pay REGULAR ADULT TICKET for Leonardo Express. Fine for not buying a ticket for your kid is €50.
👉 Example - If two parents travel with three children as follows (7 year old, 12 year old and 14 year old), they'll need to purchase 4 adult tickets total.
If you're traveling with a group, you can get a discount with the Mini-groups fare: buy 4 tickets for just €40 instead of €56.
You can bring a small dog with you (with a certificate of registration with the canine registry) at no extra cost on Leonardo Express, or bring a cat or other small pets inside an appropriate carrier.
Once you land to Fiumicino Airport, it's easy to reach Leonardo Express train platform, as you don't have to leave the airport building.
If you arrive to Terminal 3, once you pick-up your luggage and leave the Customs, follow the yellow sign for "Train". The walk is only 4-5 minutes, using escalators along the way.
If you arrive to Terminal 1, after collecting your luggage and leaving the Customs, walk for about a minute following the "Train" sign, until you reach the elevators (on the right side). Take the elevator to Level 2, then again follow the yellow sign "Train" until you reach the train platform. This will take about 10 minutes or less.
Buying the tickets for the Leonardo Express at the airport station is super easy. There are many Trenitalia ticket machines that accept both cash or credit cards and the process is quick. Make a few steps and you'll reach ticket windows, where you can buy tickets for Leonardo Express in a minute (the staff speaks English).
Reaching Termini Station is easy, as both metro line A and metro line B meets here and you can travel here from any other part of Rome. You can also use buses or taxis.
Catch Leonardo Express trains from platforms 23 and 24 at Termini Station.
All around the Termini Station, you'll find numerous Trenitalia ticket machines, from where you can get tickets for Leonardo Express.
There is also the Trenitalia ticket office, situated on the platform level (open every day from 6:30am to 10:05pm). You'll notice a huge line here, but it moves fairly quickly and the staff is helpful and speaks a good English.
To avoid waiting, enter through the office door and go to the left, where you'll find more ticket machines and one Trenitalia staff member, who will be happy to help you with buying your tickets.
Tickets for Leonardo Express bought at ticket machines are open, meaning they allow you to travel anytime on that day.
Note that all paper tickets for Leonardo Express need to be validated. At the top and bottom of the ticket it says "convalidare sul retro”, which means validate on the back. "Validation" is just a "date and time" stamp and you get it by sticking your ticket in any of the green boxes on the platforms. Insert the ticket into the validating machine and keep until you hear a clicking sound.
👉 Not validating your ticket will result in a €50 fine!
Tickets for Leonardo Express trains can also be purchased online with Trainline, in just a few simple clicks at no extra cost. Choose the date you wish to travel, then your preferred departure time and book your tickets.
You'll get the tickets straight to your email. Tickets bought online are valid for specific time slot, but you can easily change that online, if you want to travel earlier or later.

The Leonardo Express trains boast plenty of comfortable seats and room for your luggage either on racks above the seats or in luggage areas at the front and back of the train cars. You can also just opt to keep your bags by your seat as long as the train isn't too crowded.
Once you arrive to Termini, you can easily find a taxi or use metro to reach your hotel or apartment. Some parts of Rome are not served by metro, so you'll need to take a taxi (such as Trastevere). From Termini you can catch a metro to Spanish Steps, the Vatican or the Colosseum area.
From Roma Termini Station, you can reach numerous destinations within Italy. The station serves as a hub for high-speed trains (Trenitalia and Italo), which can take you away to cities such as Naples, Florence, Milan and Venice in just a few hours.
Train tickets are pretty affordable, especially if you buy them well in advance (companies release the tickets 5-6 months ahead).
Visiting Florence from Rome is a breeze. The fast trains (Frecciarossa and Italo) take only 1.5-hour between these two cities, making the journey so pleasant and quick. The trains are comfortable and clean with friendly staff.
Book early enough (a couple of months in-advance) and get Trenitalia tickets for only €21.90 (for standard class - non-refundable). For getting a little bit more comfort, choose business class for only €29.90.
You can even make a day trip from Rome to Florence, taking the earliest train and returning late in the evening. Once you arrive to Florence at Santa Maria Novella train station, you'll be only 10 minutes on foot from the main sights, such as the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria or Ponte Vecchio.
Four high-speed trains, two arriving and two departing connect daily Roma Fiumicino with the cities of Naples, Florence, Bologna, Padua and Venice, without the intermediate change.

You'll find luggage deposit inside the Termini Station, just outside the gates - take the left exit Via Giolitti and walk along the entire sidewalk. After the Coin department store, enter the tunnel and in front of the car rental you'll find luggage room.

There's another train options from Fiumicino Airport to Rome, a regional train called the FL1. It's a regular train line, and connects Fiumicino Airport with several points in central Rome, but it doesn't go to Termini Station.
You can get off at Trastevere, Ostiense, Tuscolana or Tiburtina stations in Rome, depending on where you're staying in the city. The ride on this train costs only €8. Trains leave every 15 minutes or so.
At any station, you're likely to need a taxi to get to your hotel or apartment.
